World War II veteran receives high school diploma nearly 80 years later

Pete Sabedra has waited for this moment since 1940.


Nearly 80 years later, a member of "the greatest generation" who had to put his life on hold for his family and country is finally a high school graduate.

Pete Sabedra's family recently surprised him with a diploma weeks before his grandson, Kace, was set to receive his.

"It means a lot, what we went through, to go to the service and come back and finish school. It was an honor," the 92-year-old said.
