The city of Utqiagvik, Alaska, just plunged into darkness for the next two months.

Utqiagvik, formerly known as Barrow, sits at the edge of the Arctic Ocean, about 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

The city of about 4,000 people saw the sun set Wednesday afternoon for the last time until 2021.

Utqiagvik will experience "polar night" for the next 66 days.

The sun will rise again on Jan. 23, 2021.

Utqiagvik is considered the northernmost city in the United States.

The city changed its name from Barrow to Utqiagvik in 2016.

It gained notoriety from the horror comic books and 2007 movie "30 Days of Night," in which vampires take over the city.
