Organizers forced to cancel Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta amid COVID-19 concerns

Balloon Fiesta 2020 won't happen.

Organizers announced Monday that this year’s Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta would be postponed until 2021.

Organizers sent out a release explaining that given the continued impacts of COVID-19, they had to put the safety of their pilots, guests, sponsors, staff and volunteers first.

The release says that despite the best the board of directors’ best efforts to create a plan that ensure the event go on, “all of those fail if someone contracted COVID-19 as a result of attending our international event.”

Organizers are asking those who have already purchased tickets for 2020 to standby for an email that will explain how to roll those tickets over to 2021. But if guests are unable to attend 2021 they can still request a full refund.

“We are proud of the event Balloon Fiesta has grown into over the years. We know that there is an entire community, city and state invested in its success, making this the most difficult decision we’ve ever faced as an organization. This is certainly a setback, but we will remain committed to making this the best and brightest event in the world and can’t wait to see Balloon Fiesta Park once again filled with balloons and smiling faces,” the released read in closing.
