CHI Health's Drum Circle Program for patients, survivors and supporters helps show how music works as a form of medicine.

"The bitterness is beating a drum and beating all of that energy that just had us while we were going through therapy, going through chemo, and all that bitterness that built up in us," said Lena Bedford, who has had non-Hodgkin lymphoma twice.

A professional percussion and musician, Michael Fitzsimmons, leads the group and keeps the beat.

"It's just fun," cancer survivor Ginny Kavvadias said. "Takes us back to being a kid."
