Kenneth Gilmore, a Vietnam War veteran, has struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder for decades.
"It's there forever," Gilmore said. "Every day something reminds you of Vietnam."
Despite being a man of humility, Gilmore has inspired countless people. So when his home was falling apart and in need of repairs, numerous volunteers stepped up to help fix it.
"Ken is just such a genuine person," said Doug Friedel of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church. "I really wanted to help him, and we've seen just a real turnaround in his personality."
Gilmore has also pitched in, working on his home with his new friends. He now plans to use this blessing to help others like him.
"It's just like the welcome home that I never got," Gilmore said. "They have no idea how this has turned my life around. It wasn't all for nothing, and it gives me hope to continue on."
