Thomas has cerebral palsy and needs a scooter to get around. He sometimes has to drive his scooter in the street because the sidewalks are covered with snow and ice.

"They can’t even clear the sidewalks, so I had to go in the middle of the street and drive," Thomas said. "People are like, ‘You gotta be careful, because you don’t want to get hit.’"

That’s exactly what happened one night, when a car hit his scooter and totaled it. When Hartung heard Thomas' story on the news, he stepped up to get him a new one.

"We have people that have two perfectly good legs and we still can’t get them to show up for work," Hartung said. "Seeing Marvin, he seems like he’s a go-getter, and that kind of spoke volumes to me."

Hartung made sure the bright blue scooter has all the bells and whistles on it, including rear brake lights, front lights, snow tires and a colorful orange flag.
