At 102 years old, Mildred "Gerry" Schappals has been a survivor her whole life. As her daughter, Julia, describes, she survived the Spanish Flu as an infant in 1918. She grew up and became a teacher and had two children. In her senior years, Schappals was diagnosed with both breast and colon cancer.

In 2020, she was diagnosed with COVID-19. And, as you can probably guess, she beat that, too! Her family says she’s as sweet, kind and as independent as ever. Schappals' goal is to live to be 150 years old. With her track record, luck might just be on her side!
