Dr. Harold Franklin, 86, finally received his long-awaited master's degree from Auburn University where he attended as the college's first Black student way back in 1964.

After fighting for his right to be admitted to Auburn, Dr. Franklin was met with roadblocks from the administration because they felt his thesis was "too controversial." He left Auburn to get his master's degree in history from the University of Denver instead, but never gave up hope that one day he'd get his Auburn degree, too.
