It's nothing fancy, but Tony Garrett is fulfilling a need in his community.
"From day one, ever since we opened up, it's been like non-stop," Garrett said.
Garrett spent 28 years working as a West Palm Beach police officer, but he didn't stay away for long after he retired in 2016.
He opened Pleasant City Grocery three months after leaving the force.
"There was absolutely nothing here in this general area," Garrett said. "Unfortunately, a lot of people don't have transportation where they can drive down to Publix or some of these other stores. I knew it was just something that was needed here and that I needed to be back here."
Despite everything he's done, Garrett said his work is far from over. He's currently working with several churches in the area, and he's already noticed a change in the neighborhood.
"I want to be able to teach these kids how to interact with law enforcement," Garrett said. "I want to teach them the proper way to do things. It's living up to the name now. It's pleasant. It's a pleasant city. It has changed completely."
