University professors encourage doodling as a form of note-taking

It might sound crazy, but these professors are teaching students about how doodling in class can be a good thing.

Students at the University of Iowa are learning how to use doodling to accomplish better note-taking thanks to some dedicated professors. One of those professors, Verena Paepcke-Hjeltness, teaches classes across campus a note-taking process called "sketchnoting." It involves analyzing information in classes or meetings and turning it into personalized doodles that make the material easier to understand and remember.
