Officer reunites family with dog missing for 5 years

Rocket was found nearly 40 miles from home.

An Ohio police officer on Saturday made a discovery years in the making.

Miami Township Police Officer Matt Evans found a stray dog Saturday morning.

Rocket, it turned out, was recorded in the pet registration database.

Evans contacted the owner and discovered that Rocket had gone missing five years ago in Burlington, Kentucky, nearly 40 miles from Miami Township.

The police department said Rocket's family made the trip to Miami Township and were reunited with their long-lost family member Saturday afternoon.

Miami Township police said Rocket was found to be in good health.

The police department said the incident serves as another example for why pet owners should consider registering their pets.
