Social media helped spread the word about an appeal to honor a Vietnam veteran in Nebraska who died without relatives available to bury him.
Stanley C. Stoltz served two years in Vietnam, but had no immediate family as he grew older. He spent his last days surrounded only by caregivers at a nursing home.
After Stoltz's death, a social worker reached out to the funeral home with the hopes of giving Stoltz a proper burial. A notice was also posted in a local newspaper and on social media, where it went viral.
"It's extremely important that somebody represents the veteran," said Dick Harrington, of the Final Salute Society. "Nobody dies alone."
