Thirteen people were shot during a memorial service for a homicide victim over the weekend in Louisiana.

Thirteen people were wounded during a shooting this weekend in Louisiana — during a memorial service for a homicide victim.

The gunfire broke out around 9 p.m. Saturday in Bogalusa, Louisiana, about 70 miles north of New Orleans, according to the Bogalusa Police Department.

When police arrived, officers found a large crowd gathered in the area for a memorial service set up for Dominique James, a man whose body was found this week in a wooded area.

The officers secured the scene with the help of the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, the Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office, Louisiana State Police, the Varnado Police Department, and firefighters and paramedics.

One of the 13 people who were shot is in critical condition, police said. The severity of the other victims' injuries has not been released.

Investigators said they have not received information from eye witnesses about the shooting. They are asking anyone with details to come forward.
