Mother-daughter nurses now both vaccinated after mom with one lung gets placebo in trial

Barbara Harper and her daughter, Laura, are both nurses. They were also both participants in Moderna's vaccine trial. Along with wanting to help others, the pair had personal reasons for wanting to take part.

Lauren and Barbara Harper, who are both nurses, shared their experience of being part of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial with reporter Renee Wunderlich from South Carolina news station WYFF.

Along with wanting to help others, the pair had personal reasons for wanting to take part. Barbara lost a lung to pneumonia many years ago, leaving her particularly vulnerable to the virus.

The family also lost Barbara's father to the coronavirus, something that motivated Laura to join the trial.

"I think he'd really be proud of me for being part of this trial and for doing the work I am, vaccinating people, because someone else's grandfather may get to share Christmas next year because we're getting these vaccines," she said.
