Singer and songwriter Lizzo is buying lunch for health care workers across Oklahoma City, to show her appreciation for those working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Integris Health shared on Facebook, saying that Lizzo provided lunch from Coolgreens for frontline caregivers at Integris Southwest Medical Center.
Integris officials said Lizzo is paying it forward to hospitals around the country.
"Thank you Lizzo! And thank you to all of our frontline caregivers for their consistent drive to provide quality care to our patients," Integris officials said in the post on Facebook.
Lizzo also bought lunch for more than 200 frontline workers at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, Mercy officials said.
"We are touched by Lizzo’s unsolicited act of generosity and compassion toward our frontline caregivers. The meals she donated provided physical and spiritual nourishment to more than 200 of our co-workers who care for our most critical COVID patients every day. These heroic professionals are physically and mentally exhausted and this show of support certainly provided much-needed encouragement," Jim Gebhart, community president of Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, said in a statement.
Lizzo responded to Christine Stanwood, a reporter at our sister station KOCO, on Twitter, saying, "We’ve been feeding frontline workers since last year— we try to make their impossible job a little easier. It’s the least I can do. THANK YOU FOR UR SERVICE."
