One sheriff is looking for inmates to leave his jail as productive citizens.

So far, 10 inmates have earned their high school equivalency and 11 are certified welders.

The price tag, $40,000, is all paid for by grants according to Sheriff Jerry Goodin.

“That sounds like a lot of money, but that's a very, very small portion of money that it costs just to incarcerate one of these folks,” Goodin said.
