A long line of people waited to get groceries at a store in Marrero, Louisiana, after Hurricane Ida slammed the state.
Sister station WDSU spoke with some of the people in line.
"I’m 80 years old, and this is the first storm I’ve been afraid in," one resident said. "The next one that comes, I won’t be here, believe me. I’m going to leave not the day before, I’m going to leave two days before."
He urged people who can stay away for a while to not return to their homes until the power is restored.
"Stay away until the power is back on and then come home. Stay away if you got the means to stay away," he said.
