'He changed my life': Woman thanks officer who picked her up years before

A police car ride in 2010 began Joanne's road to sobriety.

They met on one of the worst days of Joanne Batson's life, but she says a police officer she encountered showed her the compassion that led her to get sober.

In November 2010, Officer Steven Morse responded to a pharmacy for a well-being check on a woman who appeared intoxicated inside the store. That woman was Batson, who was there with her young daughter.

Morse offered her a ride to a relative's home and spoke with her on the way about building a better life for her daughter.

That message resonated with Batson, and now she's celebrating eight years of sobriety. She recently offered her sobriety medallion as a thank you to Morse.
