A 5-year-old girl in Blackshear, Georgia, died after officials say a monument she and her sister were playing on toppled over, pinning her underneath.
"It was on top of the little girl. It covered half of her body, her head, her shoulders. She was pinned and her dad couldn't get her."
That's when a man who wanted to remain anonymous says people were signaling for help.
"I tried to lift it up so he could pull her out and we weren't successful. How heavy is this monument? I mean, I couldn't lift it," the man said.
It took three men to move the slab off 5-year-old Bella Bennett, and when they finally did, she was unresponsive.
Police say she had been playing with her 8-year-old sister Lila when Lila jumped off the monument and it toppled onto Bella.
"What was holding the monument in the ground? I mean, it fell, so I don't know how exactly it fell on the little girl," the man said.
Photos show only one bolt in the downed monument.
"We just love her," said Manda Williams, assistant principal at Blackshear Elementary School. "Her teachers are devastated. Our principal is just devastated. It's just hard to comprehend right now."
She says Bella loved animals, especially horses, but most of all she loved playing with Lila.
"Pray for their family. Right now that's what they need the most is your prayers," Williams said.
