A 19-year-old who aged out of the youth adoption system recently got a heartwarming surprise.

Even though she was too old for youth adoption, she ended up with a mother anyway. And it turned out to be the woman she'd been bonding with for years.

Five years ago, when Monyay first met her caseworker Leah Paskalides, she didn't have the warmest feelings toward her.

"I didn't like her, she'll tell you that," the 19-year-old told WFTS-TV.

But the two formed a special bond over the years.

"She was very motivated and had aspirations for a future and I wanted to help her to continue to have that," Paskalides said. "So I knew she just needed support."

She gave her all the support her job would allow.
