Elementary students learning yoga to help with 'big feelings'

A Nebraska elementary school has more than half its students participating in a weekly wellness program.

Kindergarten teacher Amy Stock wanted to help students who she noticed were overwhelmed.

So she started a program at Rumsey Station Elementary School to help them learn yoga and meditation.

"I just noticed kids just struggling a lot with anxiety, worries, getting so frustrated and not really knowing how to deal with their big feelings," she says.

First grader William Anderson said it gives his brain a "time to relax and focus" if he's frustrated.

Stock has anxiety but never had the tools and strategies to deal with it when she was a kid.

"This is kind of a way to teach them strategies to help them calm down if they are starting to feel those big feelings," she says.
