Land and sea cannot keep this family apart.
Sgt. Kaleb Green has served in the Army National Guard for 13 years. He is currently in the Middle East on his second deployment.
This is his first time being apart from his 2-year-old daughter, Oaklyn, but that has not stopped him from watching her grow. Oaklyn and Green exchange video and photo messages daily.
Oaklyn's mom, Lauren Green, says, "So many people don't think about how hard it is for families to be separated and the sacrifices they make daily. This deployment is so different and brings its own challenges. It's harder because of our sweet girl who is so attached to her daddy."
To make the time go by faster, Oaklyn and Lauren have made a deployment countdown wall, where they track where he is stationed. Oaklyn also has a daddy doll that she carries everywhere. The daily videos keep Green close, even when he physically so far away.
"I don't want him to miss out on how much she's growing and changing," Lauren says, "My husband and I are a great team, and we still try to be that for Oaklyn while he is away. "
Green is currently scheduled to come home in the summer of 2020. His wife and daughter are looking forward to his safe and healthy return home.
