Penny by penny, this hopeful couple is saving every last cent in an effort to expand their family.
Rachel King spends most of her spare time counting spare change.
It’s tedious work, but she doesn’t mind, because every penny brings her closer to finally becoming a mom.
King and her husband fell in love as teenagers, married and planned to have a baby, but it wasn’t that easy.
In October, the couple posted their own unique baby announcement on Facebook, saying they were adopting.
“I can’t even tell you how many people liked it, shared it and everything else you can do on Facebook,” King said.
They turned to adoption but discovered it would cost a pretty penny.
“The adoption agency we are going through prepared us to spend $40,000 to $50,000. That’s a lot of money,” King said.
The pair started a fundraiser to collect change in baby bottles.
“We have about 80 bottles right now. We are still getting them in our mailbox and at the church,” King said. “Somebody gave this to us and it was $250.”
While it might be leftover coins to some, it means the world to the Kings.
“We kind of want to make a sign that says, ‘Worth every penny’ for the bedroom, because he or she definitely is,” King said.
The Kings anticipate being matched with a birth mother in the next few months, according to WAPT. They’re still raising money. They’ve made plans to donate all of the baby bottles. Tap here to follow their progress on Facebook.
