Damonta Nickelson, 18, isn’t on the street hustling to wash windshields anymore. He now works for Taurus Barksdale, who started the #HireASqueegeeBoyChallenge.
"There's a narrative going around that these are bad guys or they’re violent, but what I’ve come to find out is these guys, they really want work," Barksdale said.
Barksdale owns a moving and hauling company and posted on Instagram one day that he needed a helper. When no one responded, he went where he knew he’d find people willing to work.
Nickelson is one of three squeegee boys Taurus has hired. He says Barksdale has shown him that anyone willing to work hard has a chance to succeed.
"Me and my brother, we’re trying to save so we can get our own car wash," Nickelson said. "Get our own car wash and help other squeegee boys out, get them jobs."

"Hire these guys," he said. "Go out and look for these guys. They’re ready to work, they’re willing to work."
