Boy with autism gets surprise parade after birthday party canceled due to coronavirus

A police department made sure Matthew Brace's 17th birthday was a special one.

Pamela Brace wanted to make her son Matthew's 17th birthday a special one, but the coronavirus forced her to cancel his party, originally scheduled to take place at Chuck E. Cheese.

"He’s very high-risk medically, so we don’t get out much," Brace said.

Matthew has autism, along with heart and lung issues, so to celebrate his birthday while also social distancing, his mom made a call to the local police department.

"(I was) working from home and I’m like, ‘He likes police cars and fire trucks,'" Brace said. "And I thought, 'I’ll just reach out to them to see if they’d do it.'"
