A California couple is excited they are making history after having a 12-pound baby girl.

Kayla Dannielle Latrice Williams was born at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton on Friday.

Mom and baby Kayla are doing well, and nurses are monitoring Kayla in the NICU for some breathing issues.

Brigitte Williams said at her last checkup, doctors told her that her baby would be about 9 pounds, so imagine her surprise when doctors told her she had just delivered a baby the size of a three-month-old.

The family says the hospital staff told them they hadn’t delivered a baby this big in quite some time.

After 48 hours of labor, doctors had to perform a C-section on Williams.

Williams calls her daughter a blessing because she had always been told she couldn't have children.

She says she hopes to take baby Kayla home soon, although the family says they’ll now have to go buy bigger clothes.
