If there's a race to be run, Heide Moebius, 80, has probably competed in it. And chances are she finished near the front.
"I just enjoy moving successfully, and then (to) start winning races, it makes it even more exciting," Moebius said.
Moebius recently finished second in the 75-plus age group at the Athens Marathon in Greece just one day after her 80th birthday. It was her 10th and final marathon.
"It seemed like the perfect end to a long running career, in a way," Moebius said.
Moebius' husband, Richard, has been her coach and biggest cheerleader for more than 60 years.
"In the 714 races that she did run, her batting average was 88 percent," Richard said.
Moebius still puts in plenty of miles each week near her home. She said she still plans on running races in the future, including half marathons.
